Mother of pearl, is also known as “Nacre”, an organic–inorganic composite material produced by some molluscs as an inner shell layer; it is also the material of which pearls are composed. It is strong, resilient, and iridescent. Nacre is found in some of the most ancient lineages of bivalves, gastropods, and cephalopods. Pearl jewelry and mother of pearl jewelry are not the same. They take on different looks in multiple ways. What they have in common: they both convey the magical beauty of the seas and shine from every angle, providing a unique iridescence that can’t be replicated.
History & Lore
Mother of pearl has a dense and extensive history. It shows up in many ancient texts and stories, even in The Bible. It was used by the Ancient Egyptians to embellish silver and to honor royalty and high-class citizens. There were pieces of mother of pearl found in pyramids and tombs. It was also very popular in China during the Shang and Ming Dynasties, it was known to be used to create furniture, jewelry and clothing for the wealthy.

Mother of pearl is known to represent divine wisdom and intuition. Due to Mother of Pearl’s innate ability to connect us with our inner wisdom, it’s no surprise that it helps balance and open up the third eye chakra too. Origin & Location
Mother of pearl is found around the coasts of Ceylon, near Ormus, in the Persian Gulf, at Cape Comorin, and in some of the Australian seas. The finest mother of pearl is found in China with varying qualities found nearly all over the world.
