Meet the Maker
Ravena Metalworks was founded in 2018 by designer and metalsmith Sarah Harvell, specializing in handcrafted one-of-a-kind and custom made art and jewelry inspired by the serenity of nature. Sarah is an accomplished metalsmith whose handcrafted art and jewelry captures the delicate beauty and raw elegance of the natural world. Sarah draws inspiration from the landscape, intricate flora, and serene wildlife that surround her, translating these elements into unique, wearable and sculptural art.
Sarah was born and raised in Appalachia from the highlands of Floyd, Virginia and currently resides in Greensboro, NC. She has a BFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from Radford University and MFA in Metal Design from East Carolina University. Her work specializes in metalsmithing with years of experience in painting, drawing, and ceramics. Sarah teaches metalsmithing classes at the Sawtooth School for Visual Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. She is also the Web Design, E-Commerce & Marketing Manager at Piedmont Craftsmen Gallery in downtown Winston-Salem, NC, and Saslow’s & Henebry’s Diamond Jewelers in Greensboro, NC.
When she’s not in the studio, Sarah enjoys reading, befriending crows, gardening, and outdoor adventures.
Inspiration
I was inspired to create sculptures and wearable art out of a deep love for nature and a desire to create pieces that reflect its wonders. Each item is meticulously crafted using traditional techniques combined with innovative approaches, ensuring that every piece tells its own story. My creations feature a harmonious blend of organic textures, earthy tones, and natural gemstones. Whether it’s the gentle curve of a leaf, the delicate petal of a flower, or stunning bird motifs, my work embodies the essence of nature in every detail.
“Growing up in the heart of Appalachia, surrounded by the rolling hills and lush forests, nature was more than just scenery—it was a part of my soul. Every day, I was immersed in the quiet strength of the mountains, the whisper of the wind through the trees, and the sparkle of streams winding their way through the landscape. These experiences have deeply influenced my journey as an artist, especially in the creation of nature-inspired jewelry.
Appalachia taught me to see the beauty in small details, to appreciate the cycles of life, and to understand that simplicity can be profound. I carry these lessons with me every day as I craft each piece of jewelry, hoping to bring a bit of that natural magic into the lives of others.
