Raw Aquamarine

The name Aquamarine comes from aqua (Latin for ‘water’), and marine, deriving from marina (Latin for ‘of the sea’). This water-like stone washes away stress and fear, leaving room for peace and tranquility in their absence.  Aquamarine has historically been used a symbol for youth and happiness due to its color, which has also, along with its name, made Western culture connect it with the ocean. Aquamarine is the birth-stone for the month of March.

History & Lore

With its stunning shade of translucent pale turquoise, true Aquamarine is popular for incorporating into jewelry design. Because of its connection to the sea, the Aquamarine crystal meaning works to clear and cleanse the water element within our bodies, which is crucial to health and overall wellness. By reconnecting us to earth’s life-giving water element, the Aquamarine properties help to remove emotional toxicity and encourage feelings of inner peace. Ancient Romans believed that aquamarine could protect people who are travelling across the sea, they also used aquamarine to prevent illnesses. The Chinese used it to make seals, figurines, and engravings. Japanese people used aquamarine to make netsuke. It became a state gem for Colorado in 1971.

Meaning & Symbolism

The soothing, go-with-the-flow frequencies of Aquamarine make it an excellent tool in crystal healing. Along with opening and activating the heart chakra, the energy center associated with unconditional love and compassion, Aquamarine also supports physical healing. By stimulating the throat chakra, working with the Aquamarine helps to enhance immunity by opening the flow between the heart and the throat energy centers. The Aquamarine stone meaning is also associated with water, which gives it a cooling effect on the body. We suggest placing an Aquamarine over areas that are inflamed or painful, which will aid in the healing process.
