I create sculptures and wearable art inspired by a deep love of nature, capturing its beauty through organic textures, earthy tones, and natural gemstones. Each piece is meticulously crafted using both traditional and innovative techniques, telling its own story—whether it’s the curve of a leaf, the delicate form of a flower petal, or the striking silhouette of a bird in flight.
Growing up in Appalachia, I was surrounded by the rhythms of nature, where crows were constant companions. While many saw them as pests, I found their intelligence and mystery captivating. To me, crows and their larger cousins, ravens, embody resilience, adaptability, and an often-overlooked beauty. This fascination led me to name my work Ravena Metalworks, honoring these remarkable creatures and the deep connection they share with the natural world.
My passion for working with metal is rooted in a lifelong love of archaeology—the idea that jewelry crafted thousands of years ago still exists today fascinates me. Metal endures, carrying the stories of those who came before us, connecting past and present. This is why I am drawn to Opus Interrasaile, an ancient openwork metalworking technique perfected by Roman artisans and beloved in Byzantine jewelry. Its intricate patterns and delicate negative spaces echo the passage of time, a tangible link between history and the modern world. I strive to carry this tradition forward, creating pieces that will outlive me, becoming artifacts of the present for future generations to discover.
At Ravena Metalworks, my art is more than adornment—it is a tribute to the beauty, resilience, and timelessness of both nature and human craftsmanship. Each creation invites you to carry a piece of that legacy, bridging the ancient and the contemporary, the wild and the refined, the fleeting and the eternal.
