Broken Peace-Olive Branch Sculpture
Description
The olive tree is an ancient, sacred anchor of Palestinian heritage, life, and resistance. In Gaza, the systematic destruction of these orchards represents a deliberate tearing away of a people's roots and history, dismantling the very thing olive branches symbolize: peace, conciliation, and the goodwill offered to an adversary to end a conflict.
Broken Peace is an attempt to materialize this tragedy. A delicate, handcrafted branch of copper and brass stretches out across a fractured slab of concrete rubble, mimicking the landscape of war-torn Gaza.
The branch bears exactly five olives and five leaves, totaling ten individual details. This structure honors the cultural significance of the number ten as a symbol of Palestinian defiance, steadfastness (sumud), and the right of return, evoking the eternal ten-year-old refugee child, Handala. The unripened olives, crafted from pale green serpentine stone, are frozen in time, honoring the innocent children of Gaza whose lives have been cut short before reaching maturity.
It is a monument to what has been broken, and a quiet, resilient witness to what remains.

Handcrafted
Each piece is designed and made entirely by hand in my studio by me, start to finish. This is a true one-woman operation. No assistants, no casting houses, and no mass production.
Every component is cut, formed, soldered, textured, and finished by hand using traditional metalsmithing techniques. Because of this process, no two pieces are ever exactly alike. Subtle variations are not flaws but a natural part of handmade work and a mark of its individuality.
The piece you receive is truly one of a kind.
