The maple leaf is universally recognized as the symbol of Canada, yet the maple tree itself is endemic across the vast expanse of North America, a reminder that nature knows no political boundaries. Born from my own dual American and French-Canadian ancestry, this piece explores the modern, tense geopolitical trade conflicts fracturing the historic bond between the United States and Canada. By contrasting a rigid political reality with the fluid, borderless growth of the earth, the maple leaf serves as a poignant visual reminder that the land we share remains intrinsically connected, regardless of the lines we draw upon it.
